Jacob Streitz 1851-1935

Jacob Streitz was born 19 Apr 1851 in Horstein, Aschaffenbrgy, Bavaria, Germany, the son of Peter Franz Streit.

Jacob came to the US circa 1870 and settled in New York, moving to Michigan in 1878 and settling in Marine City, St. Clair county.



Jacob married Mary Ann Woods on 4 May 1880 at the Church of the Holy Cross in Marine City, St. Clair, Michigan. She was born 27 Mar 1859 in Quebec, the daughter of Joseph Woods and Rose Aiken.

Daughter Barbara Loretta was born 24 Aug 1892.  [No birth record found].

Sadly Barbara died 24 Aug 1893 of Brights Disease. Her age is given as 1 year 12 days.


Son Leo was born and died on 7 Apr 1894 in Marine City. Cause of death is unknown.

Daughter Esperance has two birth records. The first, as Espaz, gives her birth as 12 Nov 1897 in Marine City. The second, as Esprance, gives her birth as 12 Nov 1898. [Some people say she was an adopted daughter.]

The 1907 Sanborn Fire maps for Marine City show Jacob's home and shop as buildings 417 and 418 on Broadway. Both buildings are 2 stories, the shop is made of stone and the house is frame.




Daughter Mary was married to Charles W. Arkels, 14 Jul 1908 in Marine City.

George was a sailor aboard the steamer Hydras/Hydrus when it sank in Lake Huron in 1913.
