Vecera family

Frantisek/Franz Vecera was born about 1848 in Bohemia. He married Antoina Kacban/Chadin there and the couple had at least four children born in Bohemia. She was born about 1854 and married about 1875 [from the 1930 census].

Joseph was born c1878 [9 May 1880 from his WWI draft record.]

Mary was born c1879

Albin/Albert was born c1882

Antoinette was born 14 Oct 1883 [from her death record]

The Hamburg passenger list of 15 May 1884 shows the family leaving on board the "India" for Amerika, to the port of New York.

#4309 Vecera Franz, male, 36; Antonie, female, 32; Marie, female, 9; Jos, male, 3; Albin, male, 3/4; and Antonie, female, 1/4.

The family arrived at New York on 2 Jun 1884. #284 Franz Vecera, 36; wife Antonie, 32, daughter Marie, 7; son Joseph, 4; son Albin, 11 months, and daughter Antonie, 2 months. The family is listed as final destination of Fairfield, Nebr. [same as the family above] and not Chicago [as the family below].

The passenger lists leave some unanswered questions. Is Fairfield, Nebraska correct? Did the family intend on going to Nebraska and stop in Chicago instead? Did they go to Nebraska and then move to Chicago? Or was Chicago the intended destination all along?  Are Albin and Antonie really 9 months apart or are their ages wrong?

The couple had two children born in Chicago, Emma born 14 Apr 1887 and Rosia 8 Sep 1891 [from her death record, this would be two years after father's death]

Franz died 8 Sep 1889 in Niles, Cook county, Illinois and is buried at St. Adalbert.

Daughter Mary was married to Frank Pokorny on 14 May 1898 in Chicago.
