Vincent Catalano

Vincenzo Catalano was born 28 Feb 1856 in Termini Imerese, Palermo, Sicily, the fourth child on Cosimo Catalano and Maria Concetta Palmisano.

Older brother Mariano had left Sicily for Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1884 and sent for his brothers to join him. Vincenzo was here by 1888 but that passenger manifest has yet to be found.

On 27 Dec 1888 in Termini Imerese, Vincent married Biagia Gaurdalabene, the daughter of Salvatore Guardalabene and Girolama Cammarata.


Vincent arrived in New York on 23 May 1889 aboard the ship Letimbro. Line #183 states he is age 33 and a fisherman.

Son Cosimo Francis was born 29 Aug 1889 in Termini Imerese.


Biagia and Cosimo followed Vincent to America, arriving in New York on 4 Nov 1890.

Daughter Maria Concetta was born 6 Oct 1893, (film #1012892 v189 page 397). She died before 1895 when another daughter is given the same name.

Daughter Angie was born in 1894. Sadly she died 4 Jan 1895 and is buried in Calvary Cemetery. (death - film #1310324)

Daughter Maria Concetta was born 26 Oct 1895, (film #1012914 v227 page 37).

Daughter Gilanno was born 20 Dec 1897, (film #1012927 v265 page 13).

Daughter Gilanno died 2 Jun 1898 and Maria Concetta died 6 Jun 1898. They are buried at Calvary Cemetery.

Daughter Maria Concetta is born 1 Apr 1899, (film #1013683 ref 396).

Daughter Angela was born 13 Mar 1904, (film #1013711 page 255 #2843).

1905 Wisconsin State Census - Milwaukee. Vincenzio, 48, born Italy, fruit peddler; Biagia, wife, 44, born Italy; Samuel, son, 16; Ludie, son, 13; Josie, daughter, 6; Giloma, daughter, 4; Angie, daughter, 1. It lists all the children as born in Wisconsin.

Sadly baby Angela died 30 May 1906 (film #1310333) and is buried at Calvary.

Son Cosimo was married to Anna Mascari on 11 Oct 1915 in Memphis, Tennessee.



The 1920 Federal Census finds the family at 220 Milwaukee Street. Vincent is 44, says he is the owner of the mortgaged home, came to the US in 1895, became a naturalized citizen in 1910, no occupation; Betsy, 59, to US in 1891; Salvatore, 28, wholesale merchant - fruits; Concetta, 20; Mamie, 18.

Daughter Mamie married Joseph Gagliano c1923.

Son Cosimo became a naturalized citizen on 13 Jun 1924.



Son Salvatore married Margaret Sansone c1924.

Daughter Maria Concetta married Nicholas Russo on 4 Oct 1924.

Anna Mascari Catalano, the wife of son Cosimo, found it necessary to apply for US citizenship even though she was born in Tennessee, because of her marriage to an alien. She was naturalized on 11 Dec 1924.



1930 Federal Census finds the family still living at 220 Milwaukee Street. Vincent, owns the home valued at $4,000, he is 74, was married at 34; Biagia, 69 married at 26. In the same house are Salvatore, 38, married at 32, peddler - fruit; his wife Margaret, 32, married at 26; and children Vincent, 4, Bessie, 2 and Cosmio, 10 months. Also in the same house are Cosmo, 39, married at 26, proprietor - grocery store; his wife Anna, 31, married at 18, born in Tennessee; and their children Bessie, 13 and Vincent, 10.




Vincent died 8 Nov 1934 in Milwaukee.

Henry Wolf

Henry Wolf was born 1 Jul 1818 in Kleinbullesheim, Euskirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. He was the oldest child of Martin Wolf and Anna Margaret Huebach.



In 1845 the family left Germany for America, arriving in New York on 2 Jul 1845 aboard the Brutus. Passengers included Martin Wolf, 54, farmer; Margaret, 54; Henrik, 27, farmer; Anton, 25, farmer; Gertrud, 23; and Johann, 20, farmer.




The family settled in Addison, Washington county, Wisconsin. There Henry met Susanne Bauer. The couple was married on 13 Apr 1847.

Daughter Margaret is born c1848, based on her age in 1850.

Daughter Mary is born about Oct 1849, based on her age in 1850.

The 1850 Federal Census of Wayne township, Washington county lists Henry Wolf, 32, a farmer, value of real estate - $400, born Germany; Susan, 32, born Germany; Margaret, 2, born Wisconsin and Mary, 10/12, born Wisconsin. The family is living next door to Henry's parents, Martin and Anna Margaret.


Daughter Gertrud is born 8 Dec 1853 in Addison, Washington county.

Daughter Magdalena is born 26 Aug 1856, baptized 14 Sep 1856 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records.


 Daughter Catherine is born 16 Dec 1858, baptized 6 Jan 1859 at  Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records.


Son John is born 19 Jan 1860, baptized 5 Feb 1860 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records page 21.


The 1860 Federal Census of Addison, Washington county has Henry, 41, farmer, value of real estate - $1,300 value of personal estate $300, born Prussia; Susana, 29, born Prussia; Mary, 9, born Wisconsin; Margaret, 6, born Wisconsin; Gertrude, 4, born Wisconsin.


[Missing from this census are Catherine (bap 1859), John (bap 1860) and Magdalena (bap 1856). While Catherine and John die young and have later siblings given the same names, Magdalena lives to adulthood.]

Son Adam is born 31 Jan 1861, baptized 12 Feb 1861 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records page 29.



Daughter Catherine is born 16 Dec 1858, baptized 2 Oct 1864 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records page 47.


Henry died 25 Jul 1866 in Washington county. Days later, son John Nicholas is born 29 Jul 1866.

Susan remarried to Bartholomew Harper, date not found.

The 1870 Federal census shows the family in Washington county. Bartel Herber, 27, farmer, value of real estate $2,000; value of personal estate $400, born Prussia. Susana, 39, born Prussia. Wolf, Mary, 19, born Wisconsin; Margretha, 17, born Wisconsin, Gerthruth, 14, born Wisconsin; Lina, 11, born Wisconsin; Adam, 8, born Wisconsin; Catharina, 6, born Wisconsin; Nicolaus, 4, born Wisconsin. [While the ages don't match the baptisms and/or previous census, all seven living children are named.]


Daughter Mary married Peter Wingen on 14 Nov 1871 in Milwaukee.




The couples' first child, John Peter, is born 19 Jul 1872 in Richfield. Sadly Mary died at or soon after the birth of the couple's daughter Susan, born 1 Aug 1873 in Addison.

Daughter Gertrude married Bertram Honrath on 9 Oct 1878 in Richfield, Washington county.

On date unknown, but prior to 1880,  daughter Margaret married Henry Kline.

The 1880 Federal Census shows Susan, 53, farmer, born Baden, living in Erin, Washington county with children Magdalene, 21, housekeeping, born Wisconsin; Adam, 19, farm labor, born Wisconsin; Nicholas, 14, farm labor, born Wisconsin; and Barthomor Harper, 9, at school.


Daughter Magdalena married Peter Wingen (widower of her sister Mary) on 6 Jun 1882 in Wisconsin

Susan and at least some of her children moved to Salem, McCook county, South Dakota around 1885, where she died 4 Mar 1908.
