Henry Wolf

Henry Wolf was born 1 Jul 1818 in Kleinbullesheim, Euskirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. He was the oldest child of Martin Wolf and Anna Margaret Huebach.



In 1845 the family left Germany for America, arriving in New York on 2 Jul 1845 aboard the Brutus. Passengers included Martin Wolf, 54, farmer; Margaret, 54; Henrik, 27, farmer; Anton, 25, farmer; Gertrud, 23; and Johann, 20, farmer.




The family settled in Addison, Washington county, Wisconsin. There Henry met Susanne Bauer. The couple was married on 13 Apr 1847.

Daughter Margaret is born c1848, based on her age in 1850.

Daughter Mary is born about Oct 1849, based on her age in 1850.

The 1850 Federal Census of Wayne township, Washington county lists Henry Wolf, 32, a farmer, value of real estate - $400, born Germany; Susan, 32, born Germany; Margaret, 2, born Wisconsin and Mary, 10/12, born Wisconsin. The family is living next door to Henry's parents, Martin and Anna Margaret.


Daughter Gertrud is born 8 Dec 1853 in Addison, Washington county.

Daughter Magdalena is born 26 Aug 1856, baptized 14 Sep 1856 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records.


 Daughter Catherine is born 16 Dec 1858, baptized 6 Jan 1859 at  Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records.


Son John is born 19 Jan 1860, baptized 5 Feb 1860 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records page 21.


The 1860 Federal Census of Addison, Washington county has Henry, 41, farmer, value of real estate - $1,300 value of personal estate $300, born Prussia; Susana, 29, born Prussia; Mary, 9, born Wisconsin; Margaret, 6, born Wisconsin; Gertrude, 4, born Wisconsin.


[Missing from this census are Catherine (bap 1859), John (bap 1860) and Magdalena (bap 1856). While Catherine and John die young and have later siblings given the same names, Magdalena lives to adulthood.]

Son Adam is born 31 Jan 1861, baptized 12 Feb 1861 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records page 29.



Daughter Catherine is born 16 Dec 1858, baptized 2 Oct 1864 at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Nenno, Washington county, from church records page 47.


Henry died 25 Jul 1866 in Washington county. Days later, son John Nicholas is born 29 Jul 1866.

Susan remarried to Bartholomew Harper, date not found.

The 1870 Federal census shows the family in Washington county. Bartel Herber, 27, farmer, value of real estate $2,000; value of personal estate $400, born Prussia. Susana, 39, born Prussia. Wolf, Mary, 19, born Wisconsin; Margretha, 17, born Wisconsin, Gerthruth, 14, born Wisconsin; Lina, 11, born Wisconsin; Adam, 8, born Wisconsin; Catharina, 6, born Wisconsin; Nicolaus, 4, born Wisconsin. [While the ages don't match the baptisms and/or previous census, all seven living children are named.]


Daughter Mary married Peter Wingen on 14 Nov 1871 in Milwaukee.




The couples' first child, John Peter, is born 19 Jul 1872 in Richfield. Sadly Mary died at or soon after the birth of the couple's daughter Susan, born 1 Aug 1873 in Addison.

Daughter Gertrude married Bertram Honrath on 9 Oct 1878 in Richfield, Washington county.

On date unknown, but prior to 1880,  daughter Margaret married Henry Kline.

The 1880 Federal Census shows Susan, 53, farmer, born Baden, living in Erin, Washington county with children Magdalene, 21, housekeeping, born Wisconsin; Adam, 19, farm labor, born Wisconsin; Nicholas, 14, farm labor, born Wisconsin; and Barthomor Harper, 9, at school.


Daughter Magdalena married Peter Wingen (widower of her sister Mary) on 6 Jun 1882 in Wisconsin

Susan and at least some of her children moved to Salem, McCook county, South Dakota around 1885, where she died 4 Mar 1908.
