Philip Cianciolo

Filippo Francisco Cianciolo was born 26 Sep 1890 in Termini Imerese, Palermo, Sicily, the son of Salvatore Cianciolo and Antonina Longo.



Philip's sister Giuseppa was born 16 Jan 1893 in Termini Imerese.


Sadly baby Giuseppe died 19 Dec 1894 in Termini Imerese.


More sadness struck the family when Salvatore Cianciolo died 12 May 1896 in Termini Imerese.


On 9 Dec 1897 in Termini Imerese, widow Antonina Longo married Mariano Catalano, a widower with a young daughter. He had came back to Termini Imerese from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to find a wife.


On 7 Mar 1898 the family left Sicily, arriving in New York on 17 Mar 1898. Lines 7 thru 10 list Catalano, Mariano, 45; wife Longo Antonina,30; children Maria Concetta, 10; Cianciolo Filippo 7.


In the 1900 Federal Census, Philip, age 9, is listed with Mariano Catalano, 48, Antonina, 30, Quaceta, 13, and Franceska, 2. The family is living at 246 Milwaukee St.


The 1905 Wisconsin State Census has Mariano Catalano, 54, Antonina, 38, Conjetta, 18, Fillipo, 15, Franceska, 6, Margaret, 4, Biagio, 4 months and lodger Vincent Losqua, 23 [brother of Mariano's first wife]

The 1910 Federal Census for 231 Jefferson Street has Mariano Catalano, 57, Antonina, 42, Frances 11, Margaret, 9, Biagia, 3 and Philip Cianciolo, 19.


Philip married Francesca Mascari on 27 Apr 1916 in Rochester, New York.


5 Jun 1917 Philip registered for the draft. He and Frances were living at 167 Buffalo Street in Milwaukee.




The 1920 Federal Census finds the family still living at 167 Buffalo Street. Philip is 29, rents, born Italy, came to the US in 1899, a chauffer for wholesale grocery. Wife Frances is 24, born Italy, came to the US in 1903. Children are Annette 2 5/12 and Bessie 3/12, both born in Wisconsin.



This photo was taken 23 Aug 1923 at the wedding for Philip's sister Frances to John Accetta. In the center, back row are baby Frances, wife Frances and Philip. Standing in front are Philip's daughters Annette and Bess.




On 14 Jul 1924 Philip became a naturalized citizen. He says he came to the US at Hoboken, New Jersey, while the ship manifest says he arrived at New York.



1930 Federal Census - family is still at 167 Buffalo, renting for $25 per month. Philip is 39, a "coni'l traveler" for a wholesaler, Frances is 33, daughters are Annette, 12, Bessie, 10, and Frances, 7.



By 1935 the family has moved. The 1940 Federal Census has them living at 800 Kewaunee Street. Philip is 49, a carpenter at handicraft, Frances (who gave the information) is 43 and states the family lived in the same place in 1935. Children are Annette, 22, a bookkeeper at a Hosiery Plant; Bessie, 20, a new worker; Frances, 17 and Josephine, 4. [Josephine is later called Joyce Ann].


Daughter Annette is married to Alvin J. Steichen on 22 Nov 1941.

The family moved again. On his World War II draft registration, Philip says he is now living at 2735 N. First St.


Daughter Bess married Raymond L. Richard in 1943/1944.

Daughter Frances Mary married 17 Feb 1945 to Raymond Hartzell.

Philip died 31 Mar 1947 in Milwaukee. His obituary from the 1 Apr 1947 Milwaukee Journal.


Wife Frances died 1 Sep 1976. They are buried together in Holy Cross Cemetery.
